NAVY ROTC IN NEW YORK CITY
FORDHAM - SUNY MARITIME - MOLLOY
FORDHAM MARITIME MOLLOY
PROGRAM OPTIONS

  • College Program
    • For anyone who is interested in earning a Commission in the Navy or Marine Corps AND would like money for college
    • If you are currently a high school senior who has not applied for the NROTC 4 year scholarship, a high school senior who did not get accepted for a 4 year scholarship, or a currently enrolled freshman or sophomore at SUNY Maritime, Fordham, or Molloy, the College Program is the BEST way for you to get into the NROTC program and ultimately earn your commission in the Navy or Marine Corps.
    • Why NROTC College Program? The benefit of the College Program is that you get to try out the NROTC and discover if being a Navy or Marine Corps officer is right for you, without a financial or service obligation. Additionally, you have the opportunity to compete for NROTC scholarships, which are awarded nationally after each semester until the start of the junior year. The Navy will provide uniforms and books for Naval Science courses. The student will have to pay for all other expenses (tuition, room & board, any other fees). Any freshman already attending or accepted to a school with a NROTC unit may apply for the College Program. To begin the application process, visit our College Program Application Page, and choose the appropriate school. The College Program Midshipmen participate fully in all battalion events just like those Midshipmen on scholarship. If a College Program Midshipman does not obtain a scholarship while in NROTC, he/she will have the opportunity to apply for advanced standing. If advanced standing is granted by the Navy, the Midshipman will receive a monthly stipend of $350-400 during each month for the junior and senior years and will have the same career opportunities after commissioning as the Midshipmen on scholarship.
  • Merchant Marine Reserve Program
    • Available to high school seniors who are planning on attending SUNY Maritime and participating in a Coast Guard License Degree Program and currently enrolled freshmen and sophomore Maritime students in a License Degree Program. Coast Guard License Degree Programs include:
      • General Engineering
      • Electrical Engineering
      • Facilities Engineering
      • Marine Engineering
      • Mechanical Engineering
      • Naval Architecture
      • Marine Environmental Science
      • Marine Operations
      • Marine Transportation
    • This is a unique program to the SUNY Maritime College from other NROTC Units that allows students to be commissioned as an officer in the Navy Reserves upon graduation, while still working in the maritime industry.
    • Students can also apply for the Student Incentive Payment (SIP) during their freshman year at SUNY Maritime College.  SIP is worth $16,000; eligible students will receive $4000 at the beginning of the sophomore year, plus $1000 per quarter for the final three years.
    • MMR students must complete three Naval Science courses and participate in all NROTC Battalion activities.
    • Following college graduation and commissioning, MMR Officers must maintain an active Coast Guard merchant officer license for at least 6 years, serve in the Navy Reserves for at least 8 years, and work in the maritime industry.
    • MMR students may also request to serve on active duty, with the same Navy opportunities as scholarship and college program students.
    • MMR students must be a member of the SUNY Maritime College Regiment and earn a Coast Guard license in addition to a college bachelors degree in order to be commissioned.
    • If you are interested in the MMR program, we encourage you to participate in NROTC activities during your freshman year.  By participating in the NROTC program as a freshman, you will also be considered for a 3-year NROTC scholarship (if desired).
