Captain Jim Driscoll is a native of Elmhurst, Illinois. He was commissioned with a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1981.

 

Operationally, Captain Driscoll’s assignments have included Main Propulsion Assistant and Navigator onboard USS SCHENECTADY (LST 1185); Gunnery Officer onboard USS DAVID D. RAY (DD 971); Engineering Officer onboard USS FREDERICK (LST 1184); First Lieutenant onboard USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41); Current Surface Operations Officer on the staff of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command onboard USS LASALLE (AGF 3) in Bahrain; Executive Officer onboard USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42) in Sasebo, Japan; Amphibious Readiness on the staff of Commander, Third Fleet onboard USS CORONADO (AGF 11); Commanding Officer, USS TORTUGA (LSD 46); and Commander, Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron ONE, forward deployed to the Mediterranean Sea.

 

Assignments ashore include the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Master of Science degree in Information Systems in 1988; the Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific where he was an instructor and director of International Training; the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia where he earned a Master of Military Studies Degree in 1997; the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in the Expeditionary Warfare Directorate where he served as Amphibious Ship Requirements Officer; and the Military Sealift Command Headquarters in Washington, DC where he served as the Operations and Plans Officer.

 

Captain Driscoll’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal.
